Ian Fletcher worked on submarine cable technology for almost 20 years at the BT Research Laboratories at Martlesham Heath, and spent the second half of that time as BT’s head of submarine cables R&D when he worked on the technology of most of the optical fibre cables landing in the UK. He then joined PricewaterhouseCoopers, in their London-based Submarine Cable Networks unit, where he accomplished investment appraisal, due diligence, dispute arbitration, technical troubleshooting and network valuations before co-founding Datawave in 2003. He is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) and a European Engineer (Eur-Ing, FEANI) as well as a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (MIEE) and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI).

Keith Burke has been involved in the submarine cable and survey industry for more than 20 years. Working all over the world, he has led projects ranging from deep-water surveys through cable installation to repair operations. His specialist areas are survey and engineering and their application to the submarine cable industry. Keith has previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, also as marine engineering manager at BT for international cables, and before that he worked in the marine installation department at Alcatel. His experience encompasses projects such as arbitration, submarine network planning, European and Far Eastern permitting and system engineering.

Jack Runfola has extensive experience leading companies to fulfill customer expectations and company goals of revenue and profitability. With over 30 years of experience Jack has managed internal operations, business development, project management, contract negotiations and manufacturing operations for domestic and international companies. His ongoing industry experience includes cable systems Department of Defense, telecom, and offshore petro-chemical industries. His responsibilities have always been multi-disciplined, creating a proven track record and his expertise is to move companies forward in a realistic manner to achieve goals and objectives.

Joe Brown has a long history within the telecommunication industry with experience ranging from project management to business development. Most recently, Joe has been responsible for the engineering teams and execution of telecom projects ranging from $4m to $1bn with a key DOD telecom provider in the US. Prior to this Joe was the President of JTB solutions providing executive consultancy for small to mid-size businesses in the financial, strategic and operational leadership arenas in addition to securing venture capital funding. Joe was previously Chief Operating Officer at Cybernetworks Services Inc where he provided business direction and leadership to develop a complex global network infrastructure company. Ten years at BT, culminating as Lead Project Manager, had previously established a sound background in the industry.

Steve Hill currently works as a consultant to the submarine cable industry and is an Associate of DwL. Steve was one of the key design authorities for optical repeaters whilst working at STC (now Alcatel Submarine Networks). Steve led the design team for the first deployment of an optical cable, Loch Fyne, and then worked on the regenerative amplifiers used for PTAT-1 through to CANTAT 3. Steve and his team then concentrated on the design and installation of optical amplifiers and WDM systems. He then became Technical Director at ASN with responsibility for all non-cable product development. Steve led a team of 300 engineers designing optical amplifier repeaters, power feed equipment and terminal equipment.
